Meet the Staff Michael S. Doyle, MD, MPH- Medical Director Dr. Doyle earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan in 1975. He completed his Medical Degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1980. He completed an Internal Medicine internship at the Detroit Medical Center in 1981. Dr. Doyle served as a general medical officer with the USAF 18th Tactical Fighter Wing in Okinawa Japan from 1981 to 1985, where he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal. He subsequently completed his residency in Internal Medicine at William Beaumont Hospital from 1985 to 1987. He earned his Masters of Public Health in Human Nutrition from the University Of Michigan School Of Public Health in 1995. Dr. Doyle has served as Medical Director of Beaumont Hospitals Ferndale Clinic Division; Assistant Director of William Beaumont Hospitals Internal Medicine Residency Program; Chief of the Division of Preventive and Nutritional Medicine; Director of William Beaumont Hospitals Lipid Clinic; and Medical Director of William Beaumont Hospitals Weight Control Center. He was subsequently Director of the Lipid Clinic and Medical Director of Northpointe Health Center. Additionally, he has served as adjunct lecturer in Human Nutrition at the University Of Michigan School Of Public Health. He is also Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Doyle has been primary investigator in more than one hundred clinical research trials in the areas of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, lipid disorders, smoking cessation, and osteoporosis. He has been repeatedly named “Top Doc” in Lipid Disorders by Detroit Hour Magazine, is regularly included on the “Best Doctors in America” list, and is one of America’s top physicians in Bariatric Medicine as noted by Consumer’s Research Council of America. Dr. Doyle is a recognized regional expert and frequent lecturer on lipid disorders, preventive cardiology, nutrition, and obesity. His hobbies include long distance running, and he frequently competes in local, regional, and national races. Karen Koenig Berris MD Endocrinology Dr. Berris obtained her undergraduate degree in Spanish from the University of Michigan in 1997. She earned her Medical Degree from Wayne State University in 2002. Following this, she completed a residency in Internal Medicine at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak Michigan in 2005. She completed a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at Wayne State University in 2007. Dr. Berris has a special interest in bone and mineral metabolism as well as thyroid disease. She has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, most recently on the topic of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis in Current Opinion in Endocrinology. Her research on the resolution of type 2 diabetes through meal replacement induced weight loss was published in Vascular Disease Prevention in 2008. Dr. Berris MD is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. Dr. Berris is on staff at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Marisa R. Abbo D.O.Dr. Abbo earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Honors Psychology from Wayne State University in 1984. She completed a Masters of Social Work from the University of Michigan in 1985. After practicing medical social work for a short time, she returned to academia at Michigan State University- College of Osteopathic Medicine where she received her Doctorate of Osteopathy in 1992. She completed her residency in Family Medicine in 1996 at William Beaumont Hospital Troy. She stayed on as faculty/associate director teaching residents and medical students while maintaining a busy family practice. Her area of focus in the residency included preventive medicine, curriculum development, immunizations, travel medicine, health maintenance, geriatrics, and patient education. Dr. Abbo joined UnaSource Comprehensive Weight Loss Center to further her interest in preventive medicine, nutrition, weight loss, and lipid management that developed early in her career when she worked at William Beaumont Hospital Preventive Medicine and Nutrition Center in Birmingham Michigan. She continues as adjunct faculty of the Family Medicine residency at Beaumont Troy. Dr. Abbo is on staff at William Beaumont Hospital Troy. Nanette Cameron RD- Director of Dietetics Nanette Cameron received her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Eastern Michigan University in 1995. During this time she completed her coordinated undergraduate program at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She has been commissioned on the Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association since 1995, and is also a member of the American Dietetic Association. Nanette’s expertise as a dietitian has been focused on weight management, diabetes, and cardiovascular nutrition. Her current role as Director of Dietetics at UnaSource Comprehensive Weight Control Center is to primarily provide individual nutritional counseling for patients seeking weight loss, (including pre and post bariatric surgery), leading weekly nutrition classes, and conducting monthly cooking classes. Nanette has also written a cookbook called The Perfect Day” it provides 90 recipes of breakfast, lunch and dinners to help take the guess work out of healthy eating. All the recipes include the nutrition information, serving suggestions and tips to make cooking fast and convenient. These recipes are excellent to add to any weight loss program. Nanette’s main professional goal is to provide patients with the most up to date research supported nutrition recommendations in an easy to understand and practical way. Her emphasis is consistent with the basic philosophy of UnaSource, i.e. preventive nutritional therapy. This involves a non-dieting approach which includes lifestyle change and behavior modification geared towards each patient’s individual needs. Her personal goals are to continue to “practice what she preaches” to her patients and to continually try to maintain excellent health. Nanette is an expert at recipe modification and new recipe development. She enjoys exercising regularly and spending time with her two wonderful children. Nanette strives to be a role model professionally and personally. Margaret McLand, MS RD- Associate Dietitian Margaret McLand has been a registered dietitian for over 20 years. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University and her Masters Degree from Wayne State University in Nutrition and Food Science. She has worked in the area of obesity and weight loss for over 15 years including William Beaumont Hospitals Preventive Medicine and Nutrition Center in Birmingham Michigan. She truly enjoys working with people and helping them achieve a healthful lifestyle. Margaret’s specialties include weight loss, bariatric nutrition, and the nutritional management of diabetes and cardiovascular/heart disease. She has served as a Wayne State University faculty member for dietetic students and food service director. In addition to her work at UnaSource, Margaret continues to practice as an intensive inpatient clinical dietitian at Providence Hospital in Southfield Michigan. Daniel C. Stettner, PhD- Director of Psychology Dr. Stettner is a Licensed Psychologist providing individual and group behavioral health services to UnaSource patients. He is also an adjunct graduate professor at Wayne State University and is affiliated with Eastwood Clinics in Eastpointe. Dr. Stettner was the Director of Psychology for the William Beaumont Hospital Preventive Medicine and Nutrition Center for twelve years prior to joining the UnaSource program. Dr. Stettner works on improving patient quality of life through lifestyle change work that integrates past, present, and future. His emphasis is on self care which focuses on weight loss and long term weight loss stability. |
